Jörn Gessner is a senior scientist with the Leibniz-Institute for Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries in Berlin, Germany leading the restoration ecology group. He is working on sturgeon restoration  and river ecology with a focus on the recovery of the sturgeon populations of the North and Baltic Seas based in the Elbe and Oder Rivers in close collaboration with the team of INRAe and the HELCOM Expert Group on Baltic Sturgeon which he chairs. Jörn as Vice-President of the World Sturgeon Conservation Society is furthermore involved in international collaborations.  In their joint presentation together with Marie Laure Acolas and Eric Rochard the team will focus on the conditions and approaches for sturgeon recovery in Europe from which they will try to provide  lessons to be learned.
